Just north of Solana Beach lies Cardiff-by-the-Sea, often referred to as Cardiff, a beach community in the incorporated city of Encinitas in San Diego County, California. Cardiff is home to a few well-known surf spots, such as Swami’s and Cardiff Reef.
The beach at Cardiff Reef gets crowded so be sure to pack up your boogie board and long board and get there early. You’ll have to pay to park, but the easy, flat beach access is worth it.
Be sure to check out the many trails at San Elijo Lagoon, including Annie’s Trail which will lead you to incredible views. The “Magic Carpet Ride” sculpture, known to locals as the “Cardiff Kook” is a great sight to see. He’s often elaborately dressed up by the neighbors to celebrate holidays and local events.
When you’re not staying at Stubbs Vacation Beach Homes, the San Elijo campground offers oceanfront camping and a great opportunity to try surfing.
