Second Wind - DMBC756S

We rented this two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath condo for one week and had an enjoyable stay overall. The location is excellent, the layout of the unit works very well, and we especially appreciated the privacy of the front patio. The beds were comfortable, making for a restful stay.

We've rented through Stubbs Property Management before and continue to be impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness. They are a pleasure to work with, and the complex itself is beautifully maintained.

That said, this particular unit could benefit from some attention. It could use a thorough deep cleaning, the shower leaks, and the dryer required several cycles to fully dry a load of laundry.
The primary bathroom (attached to the king bedroom) has a shower that leaks where the shower door meets the tile floor. Water seeped out during every shower, leaving puddles on the bathroom floor. It appears the shower may need new caulking or a replacement seal to prevent the leakage.

The biggest issue was the living room seating. The only seating for watching TV is a large sectional that has significant wear. Most of the reclining mechanisms are broken (only the two end seats function), and the cushions sag and tilt forward, making the sofa uncomfortable and, in several spots, unusable.

We were also surprised to find food left in the unit upon arrival, as we expected everything to have been cleared out between guests.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay because of the fantastic location, comfortable beds, and the outstanding service from Stubbs Property Management. With a few updates and better maintenance, this unit could easily match the high standard of the property management company and the surrounding complex.

Very easy move in, move out process. Stubbs always responsive to any requests, property maintenance issues and accepting temporary mail deliveries. Private parking spaces limited to one which can be challenging on the weekends

This rental is not as depicted in posted pictures. The table and chairs have been changed, the couch is now broken in the middle, and there is no longer carpet in the main living area/stairs/bedrooms. The kitchen chairs are so worn that they hurt my thighs as the padding has worn down so your leg rests on the wooden frame. The coffee table in the main room had a broken handle and a towel rack in the 1⁄2 bath was held up on one side by two haphazard nails (clearly not how it was designed). Upstairs in the one bedroom, both headboards on the beds had previously been nailed into the wall, but had completely pulled out. We ended up moving them into the closet during our stay to prevent a safety hazard.

The kitchen has a mix-n-match type of pots/pans/cups/plates etc. reminiscent of a college house with various inhabitants contributing items. There was also a great lack of basic drinking glasses. There were more options for margarita or wine glasses than for water or juice. There were a few other smaller issues – soap only provided in 2 bathrooms, rust in upstairs bathroom, etc.

Overall this property could be much improved by a few hours with a handyman and some new glassware. Understandably, new kitchen chairs and a new couch would be a bigger investment. But we would not recommend the unit in its current state.

Pros: Stubbs did quickly work to remedy a problem with ants in the kitchen and with the remote for the parking garage not working. Unit management was easy to work with. The heated pool (across the street at the other part of the complex) and the hot tubs were well used by our family.

We stayed at this location for about two weeks. Overall the location and amenities were great, and the hosts were wonderful to interact with and make our stay a pleasant one. The location was also great for our three kids. The only knock would be no AC, although we were fine in June as it wasn't too hot.

We absolutely loved the location! We did have ants-LOTS OF ANTS! I let the office know and they said that was normal but both my sister and brother were staying in different condos and neither of them had the same experience with ants in their kitchens. We kept our food sealed tight but we were still constantly spraying.

The gated community is perfectly planned with the pool close by and the beach a short walk away. The beach was beautiful and the condo was well equipped with comfy beds and big couch and TV. Only downside was loud neighbors late in the night as everyone is quite close together. We had to shut the windows every night around 11pm when they came home because it would wake up my children. I suspect other renters. We would happily rent any of the Stubbs rentals again as they were a pleasure to talk to and very accommodating.

Location and access to beach is great.
Toilets and sinks were clean but hard floors (kitchen and bathrooms) were not swept. Who knows if carpets are clean?
Beds were semi-comfortable.
Couches and dining chairs have seen better days.
Kitchen pots, pans, and cooking utensils are in bad shape.
Sub-flooring is bad so there are many soft spots/creaks upstairs.

Steve, We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with this property. Dirty floors are unacceptable and we would have sent a housekeeper to do a touch up clean. We also would have been happy to send over new cookware. The carpets and upholstery had just been cleaned the week before you arrived. Stubbs aims to provide excellent service, we would have been happy to improve your stay had we known the issues.

We loved our stay at Second Wind. It is in a great location to enjoy the beach, as well as downtown San Diego and Legoland. The kitchen was well stocked, the condo was extremely comfortable for a family. Our only suggestion is it needed some pool towels and beach chairs. Thanks for another great trip Dave Stubbs!

The only problem was that our six condos were not all together. Having them in different complexes was difficult because of the different keys. It would have been helpful if the property manager had explained the security system to me when I inquired about reservations, and also that they were in different locations. She said they were within walking distance to each other, which was true, but quite a distance from DMD to SBTC. Having never been there I didn't understand the set up, so it would have been helpful to have been given a more detailed explanation. Other wise we had a great time in spite of being separated. Thanks.

Carpets were discolored and badly needed to replaced. Bathroom off master suite not clean and there was a hole in wall from water damage. Kids couldn't play on carpet as they would get a horrible rash. Nice location and great company to deal with but there were much better units in this area from same company at same rate. Would not rent this unit again unless it was renovated.

We loved the location! The property was very roomy, and the 2 bedrooms with bathrooms, and immense closet space were nice. We felt the price was a bit high, especially considering the outdated decorating and beat up furniture and utensils in the kitchen. Seemed a "hand me down" place. I forgot a pair of my favorite shoes behind, and they seemed to care less. After MANY attempts to contact them, they finally gave me a fairly terse, and very unconcerned response, so I'm sure the maid or her family is enjoying them now. The location sells, so I'm sure they have little problem renting, and the grounds have all you need, from pools and hottubs, tennis courts, and gas grills to cook outside.
